The BCAS Resident Leadership award recognizes outstanding UBC Anesthesiology residents who exemplify excellence in physician leadership. This annual award celebrates individuals who have demonstrated a strong commitment to advancing the profession through innovation, collaboration, and advocacy.

Nominees exemplify leadership through advocacy for patient care and safety, effective communication and collaborative team-building, innovative problem-solving and a drive for continuous improvement, a commitment to lifelong learning and professional development, and mentorship and support of their colleagues.

This award highlights the critical role of physician leadership in driving meaningful change and ensuring the highest standards of care. It serves as an opportunity to acknowledge residents who are making a significant impact within their training programs and the broader healthcare community.

2026 BCAS Resident Leadership Award Recipient
Dr. Maya De Vos

The BC Anesthesiologists’ Society is proud to recognize Dr Maya De Vos as the recipient of the Resident Award in Physician Leadership. Currently a PGY-5 in the UBC Anesthesia Residency Program, Dr De Vos has demonstrated exceptional leadership throughout her time as a Lead Resident. Her outstanding contributions to clinical and community excellence have been previously recognized with the Murray Robinson Award at Vancouver General Hospital (VGH), alongside its institutional equivalent.

As a resident leader, Dr De Vos consistently serves her colleagues and patients with deep kindness, consideration, and a steadfast commitment to elevating and improving the educational experience for those around her.
