This group is dedicated to promoting and advancing environmentally sustainable anesthetic practices across British Columbia. Our SIG provides a collaborative forum for anesthesiologists to share knowledge, resources, and strategies to reduce the environmental impact of anesthesia. Through outreach and peer-to-peer support, we help enhance understanding of the benefits of implementing greener practices. Open to all BCAS members, the group fosters engagement through an on-demand support network and regular meetings, working towards a more sustainable future in anesthesia. Contact us for more information or if you would like to join the group as a BCAS Member.
BCAS has developed an information document to support anesthesiologists across BC in understanding the environmental impact, clinical considerations, and cost-effectiveness of desflurane. The document outlines key arguments both for and against its continued clinical use. This resource helps members make informed decisions about desflurane use and ways to reduce environmental impact and mitigate global warming.
